Searching for Prusaks and Jareks

This page is dedicated to the Prusaks and Jareks.

The Prusaks came from the small village of Przeciszow, near Oswiecim, in the western part of Galicia. Surnames I am researching from this village are few so far: Prusak, Kosowski and Kasperek. Also, I know there are relatives by marriage by the names of Momot and Stoklosa.

The Jareks are from Kwiatonowice, near Biecz.  Surnames I am researching there are: Jarek, Galiszewski and Gorski. Also the Jareks intermarried with the Rogozinskis of nearby Rozenbark. Names I am researching there are: Rogozinski, Pierz, Peciak and  Makowiec.

Here are Wladylaw Prusak and Aniela Jarek, on their wedding day in Staten Island, New York in 1905.

Hi- My grandfather was Johannes Galiszewski. I don’t know for sure that he was from Kwiatonowice but my grandmother (Agata Wiktorowska) was from Wilczyska, which seems to be close by. I can’t find immigration records for Johannes but Agata emigrated in 1907, so I’m thinking he left Poland about that time. Do you have any information that could help me? Thanks for you time…. Joanna

    • Hi Joanna! So far the only information I have about the Galiszewskis in the U.S. is that there was an Antoni Jarek who married a Sofia Galiszewski in Staten Island, NY on May 16, 1904. Antoni was a witness at my grandparent’s wedding but I do not know how either of these are related to me yet. I note that one of the witnesses at this 1904 marriage was Kazimierz Galiszewski. Sofia resided in Jersey City NJ, and her father is listed as Marcin with mother’s maiden name as Ciulis. I hope some of these names — Sofia, Kazimierz and Marcin will be of help to you. It is very likely that these people are all from the same area as mine. The wedding took place at St. Adalbert’s Church.

Hi- Thank you so much for responding! I tried so hard to link your names to those I have, but no such luck. My Galiszewski went to Fall River MA and his father’s name was Wojciech. If I come across a Jarek in my search, though, I will let you know. Best of luck to you…..
